Capturing the spirit of idyllic kampung living in the city
Kampung Warisan Condominiums (created as lead designer for WHW & Associates)
Logo & Identity Design, Brochure, Brand Communication
The Kampung Warisan Condominiums by E&O Berhad was a groundbreaking development when it was launched in the late 90s, with a timeless appeal that endures till today. But for me, more than anything else, I treasured the opportunity to meet my childhood cartooning hero, the one and only Dato' Lat!
The year was 1994, and as a designer in the studio of William Harald-Wong & Associates, I was briefed to throw out everything I knew about marketing a high-end property, and to find a fresh approach that depicted the charm of traditional kampung living. Who better to embody this, than Dato' Lat, the original Kampung Boy himself!

As the official Concept Consultant of the project, Lat shared his insights to shape the development’s lush green landscapes, amenities and architectural features. His delightful and iconic illustrations informed the entire campaign in terms of voice, style and tempo.

The promotional materials included a brochure, postcards, a kite kit, and a ‘drawing block’ containing detailed floor plans. The cover illustration for the drawing block was created in-house, inspired by the drawing pads commonly used by students in the 50s and 60s.

A highlight of the launch was the kite kit, which included all the materials needed to assemble a traditional layang-layang (kite).
The kite kit served a deeper purpose beyond its nostalgic appeal. It created an opportunity for intergenerational bonding, inviting parents and children to connect over a shared activity.
